EXPROOF

What is Exproof?

The word Exproof comes from explosion proof, meaning protected against explosion. Ex proof are electrical materials with special equipment used in areas with explosion hazard. To explain briefly, ex-proof materials are used to take precautions against explosion in areas such as natural gas refineries, boiler rooms, oil refineries, mines and similar areas. Ex-proof materials have many features and many protection classes. The most important feature of ex-proof fixtures or panels is that they are flame-proof, arc and spark-proof. It is to try to minimize the possibility of explosion in the environment as much as possible.
Nowadays, many people do not know what ex proof means and do not have an idea about what kind of devices they are. According to research, consumers generally search on the internet for what is ex proof, what are ex proof lighting prices or what is ex proof fluorescent lighting.

What is Ex proof Zone Information? Which Regions Are Classified as Zones?

The most important detail of Exproof is the zone information. The zone information of the environment determines which type of fixture or panel you should use in which region. The zone is divided into 2: Gas and Dust zones.
For GAS, the Zone is divided into 3 regions. These are Zone-0 Zone-1 Zone-2.
For dust, the Zone is divided into 3 zones. These are Zone-20, Zone-21, Zone-22.

  • Zone-0: Zone-0 region exists in the literature. It is considered the region with the highest risk of explosion, but there is no zone 0 armature and panel production in either Turkey or Europe. Zone-1 products are generally used in zones considered zone-0. By definition, areas where gas or vapor circulates actively are considered zone-0.
  • Zone-1: These are the materials used in areas where the risk of explosion is very high. For example, many areas such as mines, refineries, natural gas filling stations, chemical material storage areas and the like fall into zone-1. It can be considered a dangerous environment during maintenance and repair works or leaks.
  • Zone-2: Areas where there is a risk of explosion such as gas and vapor in the environment, but are not as dangerous as zone-1, are included in the zone-2 class. The general purpose is to prevent an explosion that may occur in the environment without arcing or sparking in the environment. The risk of explosion is lower compared to zone-1.
  • Zone-20: Areas where electrical materials constantly come into contact with dust are Zone-20. For this reason, the region with the highest risk of explosion falls into zone-20.
  • Zone-21: Environments where the danger of explosion is lower than Zone 20, but where the dust in the environment may pose a danger during maintenance and repair works or leaks are included in Zone 21.
  • Zone-22: Areas where materials such as dust and flammable materials pose an explosion hazard, but are not as dangerous as Zone-21, are in the Zone-22 class. The general purpose is to prevent an explosion that may occur in the environment without arcing or sparking in the environment. The risk of explosion is lower compared to zone-21.
  • In Zone regions, Dust is symbolized by the letter D and Gases are symbolized by the letter G.

  • (s) special types of products
  • (Ex-td) dustproof protection
  • (i) intrinsically safe (locked) protection

What are the certificates in the field of Ex proof?

There are two important certificates in the field of Exproof. These certificates are ATEX and IEC certificates.

WHAT IS ATEX?

Atex stands for "Atmosphere Exposible". While Atex was used as an unofficial standard in 1996. Since 2003, all products produced and sold for use in explosive (ex-proof) environments have been accepted by Atex and are required to bear the symbol. It began to be used as a single standard in European countries on July 1, 2003.

WHAT IS IEC?

(The International Electrotechnical Commission) means international electrotechnical commission. This certificate, which is more comprehensive than the Atex certificate, is valid all over the world.
One of the most important factors that a conscious consumer should pay attention to in order to avoid problems during inspections is that the certificates are up-to-date. The consumer must check where the certificate of the products he will purchase, such as ex-proof luminaire, ex-proof projector, ex-proof panel, ex-proof switch and so on, was obtained and how many years it is valid.

HOW DO WE KNOW IF A PRODUCT IS EX PROOF?

One of the simplest ways to understand that the product is ex proof is the word ex on the product. In addition to the Ex statement, every ex proof product must have a certificate. The atex code found on a questioned document must be written on the armature or any other ex proof product used.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT EX PROOF ARMATURES

EX PROOF ARMATURE PRICES

We are frequently asked about the differences between ex proof luminaire prices. Ex proof luminaire prices vary depending on the regions used. While the luminaires sold for Zone-2 are found to be suitable, the offers given for Zone-1 are too expensive compared to Zone-2. In fact, the reason for this is the high risk of serious explosions occurring between Zone areas. This issue, which we consider as ex proof armature, is actually valid for all products in the field of ex proof. One of the most frequently asked questions when asking ex proof luminaire prices is Zone-0 luminaires. Zone-0 is the region that exists in the literature but has no production either in Europe or in Turkey. Generally, Zone-1 Exproof fixtures are provided for Zone-0 regions.

EXPROOF ARMATURE ISTANBUL

Large industrial establishments in Istanbul generally use ex proof products and fixtures. Many factories are inspected in this city where inspections are intense. For this reason, Istanbul ranks first among the cities that use the highest number of ex proof products.

EXPROOF ARMATURE IZMIR

After Istanbul, the city that undergoes the most inspections and uses ex proof fittings, in other words ex proof products, is Izmir. One of the main factors that makes Izmir most valuable is that the largest operations of large organizations such as TÜPRAŞ and PETKİM are located in Izmir. Since TÜPRAŞ is the starting point for Ex proof products in Turkey, it ranks second among the regions where the product is used the most.

EXPROOF ARMATURE ANKARA

After Istanbul and Izmir, Ankara is the city where Ex-proof fixtures are used the most. The biggest factor why the capital city ranks 3rd is that large companies such as TAI, Roketsan, Makine Kimya, Aselsan, Havelsan are located in the Ankara region. Due to the fact that many explosive environments are formed in this type of companies, Ankara has found itself in the third place in the ex proof sector due to the use of many ex proof products and ex proof armatures.
These 3 big cities play a huge role in the field of exproof. With the recent inspections, people in all cities in Turkey have begun to know more about ex-proof luminaires or ex-proof products and have started to replace their existing systems with ex-proof luminaires and products.
